WELCOME TO KINNEY CONSTRUCTION

Mike Kinney, owner, was born in Ketchikan, Alaska and raised on Prince of Wales Island in the small logging town of Thorne Bay. He grew up fishing, trapping and hunting in the small tight knit community of 400 people. On his second birthday he received his first hammer. From that day forward, he would not have guessed, that a hammer would develop into a passion for building homes.

As a child and into his teen years, he would build elaborate forts around Thorne Bay. At the age of 15, his family moved to Wasilla, AK and Mike enrolled in a trade school while attending high school. While he was in his senior year at high school, he participated and won the Alaska State Carpentry Contest at the age of 17. In 1985, he graduated from Wasilla High School and bought his first lot, and built/sold his first spec home on the side while working as a framer in Big Lake, AK.

The winter of ’85, after high school, he joined the National Guard. In 1987 he started a four year career in Denali Park as a framer and apprenticing as a plumber and an electrician. In 1985, during his second year at Denali he built and sold a spec home in Sacramento, CA and by his third year he had started Kinney Construction, officially formed in 1989, and continued doing side jobs while working at Denali Park.

In 1990, Mike moved to Fairbanks, AK to built a custom home. He then returned back to Thorne Bay where he continued to built homes until he moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1992. Since then Mike has built many spec & custom homes along with elaborate commercial buildings to remain one of the areas most reliable and sought-after builders.
